environmental services

The Environmental Services Division trains young adults to protect and maintain the urban environment in and around San Diego County through conservation and preservation projects. Corpsmembers are able to experience and learn about San Diego’s natural environment, including identification of native flora and fauna and how to remove invasive non-native plants.

Environmental Services Include:

· Brush Management

· Landscape Maintenance

· Tree Planting

· Habitat Restoration

· Design/Build Landscaping

· Trail Building & Maintenance

· Crib Step Construction

· Irrigation System Design & Installation

· Land Management

· Fire Fuel Reduction/Fire Breaks

· Non-Native Species Removal

· Chipping

While on the job, youth learn to identify native and non-native species and how to remove invasive plants. Corpsmembers work to clean San Diego’s waterways, restore riparian ecosystems, build trails, control erosion by means of BMPs (Best Management Practices), construct crib steps, and restore the habitat of canyons, parks, and wetlands.
